Black Youth Empowerment Program

Tropicana Community Services’ Black Youth Empowerment Program (BYEP) is a FREE 9-week after-school program for Black youth and young adults ages 16-24. The program is designed to help participants build practical employment, entrepreneurship, AI, digital and career-readiness skills while connecting with professionals, employers and community supports.
What You’ll Learn & Experience
Throughout the 9 weeks, participants will take part in hands-on workshops and activities focused on:
- Resume, cover letter and career planning
- Interview preparation and mock interviews
- Job search and employment-readiness skills
- AI tools and digital skills
- Microsoft Office and workplace technology
- Entrepreneurship and business development
- Financial literacy and life skills
- Guest speakers, mentors and employer connections
- Career Launch Day
- Community Innovation Showcase
- Graduation and transition supports
Participants will also work together to identify a real issue affecting the Scarborough community and develop a creative solution that they will have the opportunity to present during the program.
Participant Supports
BYEP is completely free to participate in and includes supports to help make attending easier, including:
Transportation support • Phone connectivity support • Meals during programming • Access to AI and digital tools • Employment and counselling supports • Career resources and professional connections
