The Together We Can Youth Mentorship program is designed to empower Black, African, Caribbean, and new Canadian youth (ages 11-25). Through events and activities, this program supports mental health, career planning, and confidence building—helping young people navigate challenges, envision their future, and connect to supportive community resources.
How Does the Program Work?
The mentoring program is based on activities that are culturally aligned, with an anti-Black racism focus, helping youth build confidence, acquire life skills, and overcome potential barriers, including systemic racism. Activities include but are not limited to:
- Group mentoring with peers
- Workshops, events, and field trips
- Cultural projects
- Community activities
- Academic and employment support
How Can Youth Mentorship help?
We all need to be able to count on someone from time to time, and that’s what mentors are for. They help mentees face hurdles by exploring and debating solutions, guiding them to make better choices, rather than making decisions for them. Mentors can also help with positive things, like pursuing and achieving goals in various areas, such as:
- Education
- Employment or entrepreneurship
- Civic engagement
- Leadership
- Cultural identity
The overall goal of the Youth Mentorship Program is for mentees to feel better about themselves and their life decisions, as well as acquire the tools to build their best life. It’s the way to start to find their place in the community and contribute, as well as develop a life and career path that takes advantage of each mentee’s talents.
